How the watch hours calculator works
Watch hours per video = views × video length × average percentage viewed ÷ 60. Multiply by how many videos you publish and you get your monthly watch time. The calculator then tells you how many months you need to reach each YouTube Partner Program level at your current pace.
YouTube monetization requirements
- Early access (fan funding): 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days and 3,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months — or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days.
- Full YouTube Partner Program (ad revenue): 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months — or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.
Shorts views do not count toward watch hours. Only public long-form watch time from the last 12 months counts, so deleted or private videos stop counting.
Ways to reach 4,000 hours faster
- Make longer videos that keep viewers watching — retention matters more than length.
- Use end screens and playlists so viewers watch several videos in a row.
- Go live: public live streams count toward watch time.
- Boost watch time and subscribers on your best videos to reach the threshold sooner.
